While you may be happy by the soft beauty blender, you must keep your makeup sponge clean to maintain hygiene. I am sure you are rinsing your makeup sponge after every use. But just rinsing the sponge is not enough to avoid bacteria sticking to the inner crevices of your blender. Your dirty tools can be a major reason for acne on your cheeks.

I am saying this to you as I have experienced a major makeup sponge disaster. Well, you know water, moisturizer and makeup can destroy your sponge with dirt and also some invisible molds. Eyuu gross! Right? When I was going through my acne phase I was researching various things that are turning out against my skin and not cleaning my makeup brushes and Beauty blender turned out to be one of them.

I will show you two different ways of cleaning your makeup sponge. Don’t worry your beauty blender cleaning spree is going to be hassle-free.

Option 1: Clean the blender with soap.

Step 1: Wet your sponge with some warm water.

Step 2: Take a soap bar. Wet your soap bar. As soap bar is drying in nature it helps to clean all the bacteria hiding in the sponge.

Step 3: Now rub your sponge on the bar. Keep doing this until the sponge is covered in soap lather.

Step 4: Squeeze your blender and make sure that the soap has reached the centre of the sponge.

Step 5: Now squeeze and rinse until the sponge is fully clean removing all the soap from it.

Step 6: Pat dry on a clean cotton cloth and keep it for drying in a hygienic place.

Option 2: Clean the blender by a soak.

Perfection is the key! A few stains here and there on your sponge may piss you off. So try the double cleaning method. Soak your sponge in liquid cleanser along with the gentle soap scrub. You will see a sparkly sponge. Let’s see how to do it.

Step 1: Soak

Add a few drops of your liquid soap cleanser in a bowl of warm water. Put the blender in this warm soapy solution. Let it soak for a few minutes.

Step 2: Scrub

Now take your sponge and rub it into a soap bar. Scrub in areas with deep stains. Once you see the soap lathering, squeeze your sponge deeply to remove all the stains.

Step 3: Rinse

If you see the sponge has started oozing the old makeup, run it under cold tap water. Give it a nice squeeze and rinse out all the soap. Keep it in a clean place for drying.

Reusable makeup sponges made from low quality microbial resistant foam should be thrown away after one use only. Using a high-quality sponge with proper care can only help in avoiding bacteria and acne.
Beauty blender in India has become a popular thing now. But I am sure many of you have queries on how to use it. Try to invest in a good quality sponge and maintain hygiene. As you are going to use it on your skin and your skin needs to be treated delicately. It is important we take care of the makeup blender so that it takes care of our skin.
